WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has praised Kendal Grey after her NXT Women’s Championship victory at Great American Bash 2026.

The NXT Women’s Championship was on the line as Lola Vice defended against Kendal Grey at Great American Bash, with the challenger wearing Kurt Angle-inspired ring gear.

Grey was able to bring the 85-day reign of Vice to an end, with a move familiar to fans of Kurt Angle playing a part in proceedings long before the match would end.

Kurt Angle would praise Grey for her ring gear, determination and ability in a post on Twitter, stating:

“Witnessing the rise of the next generation is nothing short of incredible! I couldn’t be prouder to see Kendal Grey rocking my gear and claiming her throne as the new NXT Woman’s Champion! πŸ† @kendalgreywwe

“Relentless dedication embodies everything we represent in this industry.”

For Angle, it’s what the future holds for Grey that intrigues the WWE Hall of Famer, hinting that she may have competition in eight years time, sharing:

“There’s only one Kendal Grey, and I can’t wait to see her conquer new heights.

“But…… just a heads up, in 8 years, you might want to watch your back, Kendal. There’s another Angle eager to step into that ring, and she’s got her eyes on you! @kendalgreywwe #itstrue”

The legendary WWE star recently shared a video to Instagram, showing “Kurt Angle 2.0” in the form of his daughter, Nikoletta.

13 Years Of Top NXT Talent

Paige became the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion in June 2013, seeing a 273-day run before she vacated the title with her main roster call-up.

Since then, the WWE Divas Championship would be retired at WrestleMania 32 and be replaced by the WWE Women’s Championship in 2016.

The list of former NXT Women’s Champions reads like a veritable who’s who of modern-day WWE, with the likes of Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Asuka, Rhea Ripley and others having seen their call-ups and subsequent success on the main roster.

For those who have left the company, it’s impossible to ignore the rise of Sasha Banks, now known as Mercedes Mone in AEW, having also had considerable success on the WWE main roster.

Recent champions will also no doubt find their way onto Raw and SmackDown, particularly with the churn of the WWE as it seeks to create new stars. The same is true of the NXT Championship itself, with Tony D’Angelo claiming the title from Joe Hendry before he moved up after Stand & Deliver in April of this year.

By far not the only way to get from NXT to the main roster, a title reign is still a recognition of potential when it comes to any star.
