An AEW star has teased the possibility of bringing a new championship to television, with stringent stipulations attached for its defense.

Having recently risen to the top in the Nevada State Championship men’s bodybuilding division, AEW star Brian Cage returned to the stage for the first time in over twelve years.

Declaring himself Mr. Nevada State, the star has pitched the idea of bringing a new title to AEW in the form of the ‘Body Guy Championship’.

Laying out the plans during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet,  Cage stated that, in order to compete, challengers would have to be body guys, saying:

“So, the idea behind this thing (the championship), I actually got this made beginning of last year.

“So, what I wanted to do was take it on the Indies, get it over first, and then bring it to AEW. The idea was I would defend the Body Guy title, but the catch is you have to be a body guy to get a shot at the title, and that was kind of my jab at everyone, because then no one would actually ever get a shot at the title, because you’re not a body guy. So that was kind of the loose end.

“I  just thought it was a great idea, and look cool, and I never got to do anything, and I tore my knee, so it just kind of sat there. Then, after winning the bodybuilding show, I was like, you know what, this is the perfect time to bring it back. Instead of bringing the overall trophy with the medal, I’ll just bring the freaking title to represent the overall trophy, and then we’ll just start to incorporate that.

“So, I had it backstage with me during the segment, and on Dynamite this past Wednesday, and I will be bringing it every week, and we will go from there.”

Cage would also reveal that there had been interest from WWE in 2024, although he went on to sign a contract extension with AEW, explaining that opportunities and job security played a part in the decision.

Body Guy Championship? Bring On Meat Madness!

The “you have to be a body guy” stipulation for Brian Cage’s championship would be a solid way for AEW to revisit the abandoned Meat Madness match that was announced for Revolution in March 2024, only to be scrapped.

That match would have seen a clash of the ‘super heavyweights’, according to Lance Archer, a perfect setting for the Body Guy Championship, with Brian Cage very much at its heart.

The AEW fans chanting “meat, meat, meat” was clearly enough to get Tony Khan’s juices flowing and it would add another dimension to what is currently on offer, with its focus on a particular niche of the roster.

Cage, Archer, Bobby Lashley would all be potential instant fits to compete for the title, with many other specimens no doubt eyeing an opportunity to test their mettle in the hypothetical category. After all, how does one define a “body guy” aside from an individual with a particular aesthetic?

NJPW run their annual Concurso contest, seeking to identify the star with the “best physical condition”, with the somewhat lighthearted competition seeing Hyou win with 768 votes. By contrast, Drilla Moloney secured the win in the previous year’s Concurso with 2,198 votes.

There’s certainly a place for the Body Guy Championship on AEW programming, despite the wealth of titles currently contended on a regular basis.
