AEW
AEW star Kyle Fletcher has addressed attacking Konosuke Takeshita at Double or Nothing, following Takeshita’s championship victory.
With Konosuke Takeshita defeating Kazuchika Okada for the AEW International Championship, it seemed that a victory for either star would lead to a Don Callis Family celebration.
That all changed when Kyle Fletcher made his return from injury, initially embracing Takeshita and celebrating the win, only to level him moments later, much to the joy of Don Callis.
With the rest of the Don Callis Family entering the ring, Okada would initially reach for the International Championship, before leaving it to Fletcher, who went on to smash the title into the forehead of Takeshita.
The official AEW Twitter account acknowledged the betrayal at the hands of his Don Callis Family brothers, in a post that reads:
“Konosuke Takeshita has the AEW International Championship once again … but he’s lost a best friend.”
Fletcher would respond to the post, making his feelings towards Takeshita clear, stating:
“He lost a lot more than that.”
Takeshita’s membership of the Don Callis Family started at AEW Double or Nothing in May 2023, seeing the star betray The Elite in the Anarchy in the Arena match, with that moment securing the victory for Blackpool Combat Club (Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta).
A former TNT Champion, Fletcher was forced to vacate the title during his second reign due to injury in April of this year.
The Ever-Expanding Don Callis Family
As recently as March of this year, the Don Callis Family saw an addition to its numbers in the form of Volador Jr. The attack on Takeshita would indicate that the newly crowned champion is no longer a faction member, leaving fourteen stars under Don Callis’ leadership.
Of the current members, Kyle Fletcher is the longest serving, having joined back in October of 2023, with Sammy Guevara, Will Ospreay, Rush, Powerhouse Hobbs and, now, Takeshita all parting ways with the patriarch.
During its existence, the Don Callis Family has been an all-male affair, and there’s an argument to be made that adding a female star to the lineup could drive forward interesting opportunities. Death Riders did just that, bringing in Marina Shafir in September 2024, after Jon Moxley turned his back on Blackpool Combat Club.
Whether AEW fans will see a female star in the Don Callis Family remains to be seen, although the eponymous manager has previous discussed a “transfer window” as a way to increase his faction.
