The match gets underway before Ambrose can even get to the ring as Rollins ambushes him from behind, and the pair proceed to brawl all throughout the arena.
They go at it backstage, in the crowd, and finally bring things back to ringside.
Ambrose peels away the padding at ringside, similar to how he did when he originally turned on Rollins a couple of months ago.
The champion attempts Dirty Deeds on the exposed concrete, but Rollins manages to counter.
Things spill back into the ring, as Rollins hits an impressive sequence including a Curb Stomp, but just as it looks like he is about to pick up the win, Bobby Lashley pulls him out the ring and launches an assault.
Bob hits the Dominator, then a Spear, allowing Ambrose to retain his title, before putting him through a table after the match is done.

Banks picks up the win despite being the underdog and outside interfence from Tamina, and will challenge Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women’s Championship at Royal Rumble. That should be very good indeed.
Up next, it’s the main event as Dean Ambrose defends the IC Title in a Falls Count Anywhere match against Seth Rollins!
This is actually the second Falls Count Anywhere match between Seth and Dean. Rollins won by referee stoppage on August 18, 2014 in a match awarded 4.25 stars by Dave Meltzer.

Rousey uses the segment to put over Sasha Banks, before being cut off by Nia Jax making sick noises. Yep. You did indeed read that right.
Jax says her and Rousey have unfinished business. Well, no they don’t – Rousey’s beaten her multiple times.
Banks then comes out and says that she’d love to challenge Rousey. Cue more Jax moaning.
The ‘Boss’ calls Nia a “bitch” which is the most eventful thing that’s happened on this show in the last 90 minutes or so, and challenges her to a match. Winner faces Ronda.
Prior to this, Sasha and Nia had only two singles matches in WWE, with the record standing at 1-1.

Apollo and Ember pick up the win, with Ember landing the Eclipse on Fox.
Up next, it’s ‘A Moment of Bliss’, and honestly, it can’t get much worse than what the last hour of this show has been.

This is becoming difficult to watch.
Alicia Fox shouts “SHANTI!” for a bit, and we have a mixed tag match. Apollo and Ember vs. Jinder and Alicia Fox.
I genuinely don’t really know what to do with myself any more.

So… we didn’t get a face-to-face confrontation, instead we got a Heyman promo from backstage, with Braun in the ring moaning that Brock wasn’t going to join him in the ring.
After a bit of trash talking from Braun, Lesnar eventually marches to the ring much to the dismay of his advocate, who chooses not to follow. Brock doesn’t actually get in the ring though, instead just walking a ring around it and walking back up the ramp.
Instead of chasing him, Braun just moans at him through the microphone.
That was absolutely dreadful.

Time for an Elias concert now ahead of his match against Baron Corbin.
He lists his 2018 achievements, namely releasing his own album and selling out MSG, before saying that that is nothing compared to what he has planned for 2019.
He then officially announces his participation in this year’s Royal Rumble match. I hope he wins.
Just as he is about to sing a song about Bazza Corbs, the former Acting GM himself comes onto the stage and moans about being disrespected or something, and then announces that he too is in the Rumble match.
And the match is now underway!

In a really good match in front of a depressingly dead crowd, Gable and Roode escape with the titles despite Scott Dawson’s foot being under the rope when the ref counted three.
Boss spot in there when Gable hit a Chaos Theory German on Dawson, only for Wilder to come flying off the top rope with a splash to break up the pin.
When all is said and done, Gable & Roode retain the titles.

Literally no idea.
But I can tell you that this is the Revival’s fifth tag team title match since (and including) SummerSlam. Can they finally win the titles?

The live crowd in attendance stands to a 10 bell salute to celebrate the life of ‘Mean’ Gene, before Hogan comes out in full ‘Immortal’ character as that is exactly how Okerlund would have wanted it.
The Hulkster sends us to a vignette of Okerlund’s most memorable moments, in which Hogan attributes much of his success to the legendary interviewer.
Hogan gives us one last “Well let me tell ya something ‘Mean Gene’…” before going on to narrate a scene involving other late greats of the industry such as André the Giant and the Ultimate Warrior.
Okerlund was a true entertainer and is a legend of pro-wrestling and sports entertainment. We thank ‘Mean Gene’ for providing everlasting memories for many over the years, and continue to send our prayers to the Okerlund family.
Thank you, ‘Mean Gene’.

After picking up the win, Rollins immediately storms backstage to find Triple H, and asks for a match with Ambrose tonight.
Trips agrees, and makes it official for later on in the show. Ambrose will defend his IC Title against Rollins in a FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE match!
Up next, Hulk Hogan makes his first Raw appearance since March 2015, to celebrate the life of ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund, who sadly passed away on January 2.

Bálor gets the tag and hits the Coup de Grace on Dean. However, before he can capitalize, McIntyre slides into the ring and strikes with a Claymore.
The Irishman then tags Rollins into the match, and, as you can imagine, Seth runs about like a maniac for a bit, and scores a nearfall on Drew with a Falcon Arrow.
Soon after, Rollins attempts a Frog Splash but Drew rolls out the way, and tags in IC Champion Ambrose. Seth manages to catch Ambrose off guard though, and score a pinfall after a Curb Stomp.
That was a very good match, but an… odd finish. I guess. I sort of expected McIntyre to pin Cena. Oh well. I won’t complain about an opening 40 minutes like that given what we were subjected to throughout much of 2018.

Back from the ad break, and we do get the predicted six-man tag. The heels work over Bálor early before Cena tags in.
Fun fact, Cena and McIntyre have never had a singles match. The closest they came was a tag team match on October 24 2010 at Bragging Rights, where Cena and David Otunga beat Drew and Cody Rhodes for the Tag Team Titles. Those were the days!
Oh, and Lashley has never beaten Cena. Ever. In any form of match. Could that change tonight?

Drew reminds Cena that since he’s been gone, the Scot has been running roughshod through Raw, dismantling the Shield, Ziggler and Kurt Angle.
McIntyre says that now he’s coming for Cena, which Cena rebuffs by pointing out that about 4327 wrestlers have said that, and they never actually have. Drew says that the difference between those and him is that they were all talk – he’s going to show us.
Just as it looks like we’re about to get a Drew vs. Cena brawl, Lio Rush comes onto the stage and moans about Seth Rollins attacking Lashley earlier. Another brawl breaks out, with Ambrose and Finn Bálor joining the fray.
We go to an ad break, but it looks like we’re gonna be set for a six-man tag when we come back:
Cena, Rollins & Bálor vs. McIntyre, Lashley & Ambrose.

Raw opens with a brawl in the backstage area between Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins, who had a match last week after Triple H said he wanted to see the old Seth Rollins back.
The scuffle made its way into the arena onto the stage, with backstage personnel and roster members trying to break it up.
Order is soon restored, and John Cena makes his way to the ring for his Raw return!

It’s a new year, yes it is! The first Raw of 2019 is here, and to say that WWE are pulling out the big guns would be somewhat of an understatement.
John Cena will make his return to the red brand after appearing on last week’s SmackDown Live, aswell as Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and Lesnar’s Royal Rumble challenger, Braun Strowman. WWE has announced via Twitter that Cena will open the show tonight:

On January 2 2019, we said goodbye to a true legend of the industry, as WWE Hall of Famer ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund sadly passed away. Fellow Hall of Famer, and the most recognizable face in WWE history, Hulk Hogan, will also be appearing tonight to honor his friend.
There have also been reports of yet another Hall of Famer set to appear on the show tonight, potentially with similar intents to Hogan. This particular name is yet to be announced by WWE.A few weeks back, WWE announced six NXT wrestlers that were soon to be moved to the main roster. They were: Lars Sullivan, Lacey Evans, Otis Dozovic and Tucker Knight of Heavy Machinery, Nikki Cross, and EC3.
None of these new faces have showed up on either Raw or SmackDown yet, and one has to think it won’t be too long until we start seeing them introduced. I for one really really really really want EC3 to interrupt Cena tonight. Pretty please.
Also confirmed for tonight’s show:
- The debut of ‘A Moment of Bliss’ with special guest Ronda Rousey
- Elias vs. Baron Corbin
- Gable & Roode (c) vs. The Revival – Lumberjack match for the Raw Tag Titles
