WWE has released their first video promoting the 2018 Mae Young Classic.
While all the in-ring footage was pulled directly from last year’s event, it may actually serve as foreshadowing for what is to come during the upcoming tournament.
The package starts by announcing the tournament this year will once again be held at Full Sail University on August 8th and 9th. The video then showcases highlights from many of last year’s contests as well as promotional close-ups of a few of last year’s stand out performers. Those include Toni Storm, Mia Yim, Rhea Ripley, and Mercedes Martinez.
It probably is no coincidence that these women were chosen to be used in this advertisement as it could very well mean that they will return for a second time in an attempt to win the trophy this year. Toni Storm has long been rumored to be heading to the WWE and after a very impressive showing last year, she could be one of this year’s favorites to go all the way.
Martinez, like Storm, made it to the semi-finals before being defeated by the eventual winner, Kairi Sane.
Ripley and Yim both were eliminated in the second round of action but were definitely two of the most impressive wrestlers in the tournament.
These women would be joining Io Shirai, Meiko Satomura, and Deonna Purrazzo who, while not yet confirmed, are very widely believed to be participants in this year’s classic.
No official date has been set as to when they will make the official announcement but you can imagine that very soon WWE will showcase all 32 competitors similar to how they did for last year in a WWE Network special.
