Mae Young Classic To Return In 2019

Mae Young Classic To Return In 2019

As first reported by Squared Circle Sirens, WWE will be holding a third annual Mae Young Classic tournament over the summer.

A German documentary covering WWE’s recent tryout camp in the country revealed the news. During the broadcast, it was said that the Mae Young Classic tournament would be returning “soon”. Long-time indy worker Wesna – who is Croatian but has largely made her name on the German independent circuit – was invited to participate.

Another name invited to compete was Amale Winchester, a French performer who has recently worked for German super-indy wXw and has also build a reputation elsewhere in Germany.

The Mae Young Classic debuted in 2017 and was won by Kairi Sane, who beat Shayna Baszler in a special live broadcast on the WWE Network that took place immediately after an episode of SmackDown.

Last year the stacked tournament was won by current NXT UK Women’s Champion Toni Storm, who defeated favourite Io Shirai in a decent albeit rushed final at all-women’s pay-per-view Evolution.
