WWE Hall of Famer Compares Recent Ricky Starks Promo To John Cena WWE

Mark Henry has praised the recent MJF and Ricky Starks promo, comparing it to John Cena’s ‘ruthless aggression’ moment.

In the December 7 episode of AEW Dynamite, Ricky Starks gave MJF a run for his money during a heated in-ring promo.

The two traded in a verbal quid pro quo. MJF attacked Ricky Starks for being a ‘dollar store’ Dwayne, and Starks called out MJF for skipping the Double or Nothing meet and greet.

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry discussed the promo during a recent episode of the Busted Open Podcast.

He drew a comparison between Starks’ performance and  John Cena’s main roster debut.

In a moment that will feature in wrestling gifs and memes forever, John Cena famously answered Kurt Angle’s open challenge in June 2002 on SmackDown. He declared that he possessed ‘ruthless aggression’ to succeed.

Mark Henry drew on the moment to describe the segment between Ricky Starks and MJF, saying:

“For example, Kurt Angle’s in the ring and John Cena comes out and he slaps Kurt Angle? He Ruthless-Aggressioned that whole deal. That one moment turned John Cena into somebody people gave a s**t about.

“I felt like last night the same identical thing happened with Ricky Starks! Ricky Starks was able to go in the ring and become a major player in one night.”

Henry considered Starks’s chances of becoming AEW World Champion.

He said:

“Now it’s about the carryover. It’s not always about the winning and losing, it’s about gaining the respect of the crowd. MJF can win the match, but not win the war.

“If that’s the way it goes? Maybe in the middle of this year? We might not be talking about MJF as the champion, we might be talking about MJF as the challenger!”

MJF  defends the AEW World Championship against Ricky Starks at AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming on December 14.
