Released Star Believes WWE Is Now ‘What Wrestling Should Be’ WWE

Former WWE star Matt Cardona believes that WWE is now exciting, following the management change earlier this year.

Following Vince McMahon’s departure in July, Chairwoman Stephanie McMahon and President Nick Khan took over as WWE co-CEOs. Triple H now oversees WWE creative as the company’s Chief Content Officer.

Since Triple H took over creative, a number of former WWE stars have returned to the company. Most recently, Emma (Tenille Dashwood) made a shock appearance on the October 28 edition of SmackDown, answering Ronda Rousey’s open challenge.

Speaking with Sportskeeda, Matt Cardona argued that WWE is now producing must-see TV, noting:

“It’s certainly exciting, right? Every week it seems like, or maybe not every week, but it seems like someone’s coming back or debuting or re-debuting. It’s fresh, it’s exciting, it’s must-see TV, and I think that’s what wrestling should be.”

Cardona was let go by WWE in April 2020, after almost 15 years with the company. Addressing rumors about a potential WWE return, Cardona noted that he’d only consider a return if he didn’t have to bring back his Zack Ryder character:

“If I were to ever go back, it has to be as Matt Cardona. Zack Ryder, it was what it was; I’m so grateful for that run; it has set me up for this run. Without being Zack Ryder in WWE, I wouldn’t be Matt Cardona.”

Cardona recently admitted that he still dreams about possibly becoming WWE Champion in the future, but stated that he wasn’t actively trying to get back to WWE.
