WWE star Matt Cardona has addressed his losing streak, commenting on his run with the company since his return.
Following a one-off appearance in November 2025 as part of the tournament to determine John Cena’s final opponent, Matt Cardona made his official return to the company on the January 2 SmackDown episode, defeating Kit Wilson in singles action.
Since then, Cardona has lost nine straight matches on SmackDown TV, most recently coming up short against recent NXT call-up Ricky Saints on the May 8 episode.
Cardona has now taken to Twitter to state that he will not be discouraged by a few losses.
The almost-Grand Slam Champion wrote:
It took me almost 6 years to get back to @WWE… You think losing some matches is going to stop me? LOL.
It’s not over until I quit…and that’s never going to happen. I’M NOT FINISHED.
While Cardona has yet to score a victory on SmackDown since January, he did pick up a win on the March 19 edition of Main Event, teaming with Apollo Crews to defeat Nathan Frazer and Axiom.
Many fans had high hopes for Matt Cardona’s return, with it being acknowledged in a backstage segment shortly after his comeback that he is one world title win away from becoming a WWE Grand Slam Champion.
With this being set up very early on, many expected him to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre, who returned to the company after some time away to become WWE Champion.
While Cardona has been near the WWE Championship picture – previously competing for a spot in a WWE Championship #1 contender’s match, and being attacked by WrestleMania 42 WWE Title challenger Randy Orton – he has yet to have a WWE Championship program of his own since his return.
Given Cardona’s dedication, it would be a full-circle moment to see him win the big one, only time will tell as to whether he gets this opportunity.
