WWE analyst Sam Roberts has pitched a ‘title vs. career’ rematch between Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu following the events of Backlash.

At WWE Backlash, Roman Reigns made his first defence of his World Heavyweight Championship, defeating Jacob Fatu in the show’s main event.

After the match, Fatu locked Reigns in the Tongan Death Grip, leaving him laying in the ring, seemingly setting up a rematch between the two.

Roman addressed Jacob after the attack, where he said that is ‘why he didn’t want Jacob in WWE’, and that it would be his ‘last night here‘.

Sam Roberts Pitches Title Vs. Career Stipulation For Roman Reigns Vs. Jacob Fatu Rematch

Speaking on his NotSam Wrestling show, WWE analyst Sam Roberts discussed the match, pitching that WWE runs the rematch as ‘title vs. career’ at Clash In Italy.

Roberts noted that, with recent reports about Reigns’ schedule for the month of June, WWE could use that information to their advantage for the match.

He said:

“So if we really want to illustrate the difference between Jacob and Roman, illustrate the difference between how they do what they do, and the difference in what they want and their result; I think it could make a lot of sense to put a stipulation on this match.

“Imagine if we get this rematch at Clash In Italy, Roman Reigns vs. Jacob Fatu, but we do title vs. career.

“Jacob wants that title more than anything. Roman Reigns is ready to be done with Jacob Fatu. Jacob wants that title and all the perks that come with it, Roman thinks that Jacob is a liability. Roman wants Jacob done, Jacob wants the riches of being champion. How badly do you want that title, will you put your career up? How badly do you want Jacob done, will you put your title up?

Then we start having this conversation, where in a narrative way, all this talk about Roman not being on WWE TV in June, which still remains to be seen, now becomes part of a plot device for wrestling fans that are reading everything on the internet. Now we’re using the stuff online to our favour, because the fact is, very few people walked into Backlash thinking there was any possibility Jacob Fatu was going to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

“But you are telling me we are walking into a title vs. career match, and you’re telling me we don’t have Roman Reigns advertised for TV in June, all of a sudden the chance of Jacob Fatu winning the World Heavyweight Championship becomes an extreme possibility, you might even say likelihood.

“There’s no way Jacob’s leaving, and there was so much excitement for him after the Backlash match with everything he did post-match, so in my mind that’s exactly where I go.

“Not only do I have the rematch, not only do I have the rematch in Italy, but I make it title vs. career.”
