Mercedes Mone Addresses AEW Creative Control Rumors

TBS Champion Mercedes Mone has opened up about her AEW creative, following previous rumors that she is the one with that power in AEW.

Previously, the AEW star has been called ‘Mercedes Hogan‘ by a corner of wrestling fandom, who had the belief that she has creative control over her own direction.

In a recent interview TV Insider, Mone was asked about the “online chatter” of her creative control in AEW, responding:

“I work with whoever Tony (Khan) wants me to work with. That’s why I’m “The CEO.”

“That’s why I came here because I watched the women, and said, “This is the place for me to be because there is so much passion and drive.”

“We legit have the greatest women’s division in all of professional wrestling. The best from Toni Storm, Athena, Kris Statlander, Willow, and I can go on and on and on.

“I really feel like the last year-and-a-half there has been such a shift in the energy with what we bring to AEW television.

“We’re getting more time, more matches and more in-depth storylines. It has been such great growth.

“Being a part of it has been so amazing for myself and my career.”

While Tony Khan would confirm he has conversations with stars such as Mone and Toni Storm, he has stated he is the one with ‘final creative control‘.

During the interview, Mone would comment on WWE counterprogramming against AEW, noting that she doesn’t watch what they have to offer.

With multiple championships under her stewardship, Mone would also reveal one name in particular that she would like to see sign with AEW.

There’s a busy weekend ahead for Mercedes Mone as she returns to Revolution Pro Wrestling to defend the Undisputed British Women’s Championship against Discovery Wrestling Scottish Women’s Champion Emersyn Jayne in a Title vs. Title match at Global Wars on August 22.

She then heads to AEW Forbidden Door to defend her TBS Championship on August 24 in a four-way match featuring Alex Windsor, CMLL’s Persephone and Bozilla, representing Stardom.
