Mercedes Mone Discusses Creative Differences Between Japan & WWE NJPW

Despite reports suggesting her initial contract with Bushiroad was nearing its end following her IWGP Women’s Title Defence at STARDOM’s All-Star Queendom event (April 21) against Mayu Iwatani, Mercedes Mone has provided an update.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Mone would discuss her future, dispelling the idea her time in Japan is nearing an end by stating she is instead intent on making history in the Far East instead of heading back west.

She would elaborate further on the differences she has felt so far in Japan compared to what she knew back in the United States working for WWE.

Mone would detail the creative differences, and the freedom allowed in Japan in comparison to her previous employer.

Mone explained:

“In the United States, you’re told what to do, what to say and how to say it.

“Here, I’m creating every single moment. I feel so free. I’ve never been this confident. And it is significant to me because I’m inspiring people to follow their dreams. I don’t take that responsibility.

“I’m not even in my prime yet. I’m just getting started. I’m finally getting to create the magic I’ve always wanted to create.

“My ideas aren’t being limited and I’m not constantly hearing no or that matches are being cut short. I’m not going to hold back.”

Despite fans expecting both Mone and Naomi to return to WWE upon the beginning of Triple H’s creative regime, neither ended up taking the bait, instead seeking to carve a new path away from the company.
