There were two new champions at tonight’s WWE SummerSlam 2023 as a Money in the Bank winner cashed in the contract.
The WWE Women’s Championship was on the line in the second to last match of the night at WWE SummerSlam from Detroit, Michigan’s Ford Field, as Asuka defended against both Bianca Belair vs Charlotte Flair in a three-way match.
After selling a storyline knee injury to the point of nearly being removed to the match, it was Belair who emerged with the win to become the new champion, but… her victory would be very short lived.
Mere seconds after Belair won the title, Money in the Bank contract holder IYO SKY’s music hit as she and Bayley ran out to the ring.
With Bayley using the briefcase as a weapon to clear out Asuka and Charlotte from any potential interference, the briefcase was then used as a weapon on Bianca’s already ailing knee.
Cashing in the contract, IYO SKY made short work of the new champ Belair to win the WWE Women’s Championship for the first time.
Dakota Kai then returned after the victory to celebrate alongside IYO SKY and Bayley one year after Damage CTRL’s debut at SummerSlam.
