Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay are less than 24 hours removed from their match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
The match, which saw Ospreay regain the IWGP United States Championship that he lost to Omega in the pair’s first bout at Wrestle Kingdom 17, has been widely regarded by many as an instant classic, with many believing it to be the very best of 2023 so far.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), we now have more details on the match and it’s immediate fallout.
Many viewers watching were concerned over several of the spots in the match, namely Ospreay hitting Omega with a Tiger Driver 91, and the health of both men following the high risk moves.
Fightful was told that both men left the match relatively unscathed, with Omega specifically telling several people that he was fine after it had ended.
When both men returned backstage after the match, they were met with applause and a standing ovation from their peers, who had high praise for the bout.
The match was said to have been meticulously planned, much like their bout at Wrestle Kingdom in January.
Ospreay had previously noted in an interview that he was hoping the second match with Omega would be a lot different to the first, as he felt like Omega got in around ’80 percent’ of the offense.
