New Champion Crowned At NJPW Dominion

Tomohiro Ishii has defeated TAICHI to become the new NEVER Openweight Champion at Dominion. This was the first title defence of TAICHI’s reign.

Ishii’s title win marks his fifth reign with the NEVER Openweight Championship. This is the new record for most reigns with the title. This is the first time Ishii has held the title since losing it to Katsuyori Shibata at Wrestle Kingdom 10 in 2016.

TAICHI had defeated Jeff Cobb for the title at Wrestling Dontaku in May. This was TAICHI’s second reign with the title. His first took place last year where he also was unable to make one single successful title defence.

Ishii told TAICHI in their match that TAICHI does not need the extra gimmicks that he utilizes. He through TAICHI’s mic stand up the aisle before the match got going.
