Earlier today, it was reported Zelina Vega had been released by WWE. This led many to speculate on the reasoning behind the release.
Now a new report from PWInsider is stating the release was specifically connected to Vega’s use of Twitch and resistance to allowing WWE to takeover her channel.
The report had the following to say:
“Multiple WWE sources have confirmed to PWInsider.com that today’s release of Zelina Vega was fallout from last month’s edict that talents drop their relationships with third party entities such as Twitch, Cameo, etc. in favor of World Wrestling Entertainment spearheading those relationships and fielding talents out as part of their contractual duties.”
It appears Vega will be subject to a 90-day noncompete clause. PWInsider is also reporting she found out today prior to SmackDown and was only informed a few minutes after tweeting in support of Wrestlers unionizing.
Now even more details have been reported by WrestleVotes:
There’s a bit more behind the scenes to the Zelina Vega release. Frustration from both sides is an understatement. While it can’t be directly tied to today’s news, Aleister Black recently requested to move back to NXT and was denied. Dissension amongst the parties involved.

It seems like this has been building and finally reached a boiling point. Some speculated Vega asked for her release.
However, it appears the decision was solely WWE’s. Vega is a talented performer and will likely have several people pursue her once her noncompete clause is over.
