A new WWE romance storyline may be beginning, and it might lead to the breakup of a tag team for the second time.
There was a bit of a surprise result on this week’s November 21 episode of NXT as, thanks to interference from Lexis King, Josh Briggs picked up a win over former NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes.
This means Briggs has qualified for the men’s Iron Survivor Challenge at NXT Deadline on December 9.
Backstage after the match, he was congratulated by Tiffany Stratton, who herself had already qualified for the women’s Iron Survivor Challenge:
Stratton: “Feels good to be a winner, doesn’t it?”
Briggs: “Damn right it does girl.”
Stratton: “Trust me, I would know. See you at Deadline.”
Briggs: “Alright, toodles.”
After Stratton left, Brooks Jensen and Fallon Henley walked into shot, and Henley in particular wasn’t happy to have seen Briggs talking to Stratton.
Briggs’ response when asked what was going on was simply, “Don’t worry about that”, which is a good way to make someone worry about that.
This is all in addition to multiple signs recently that there’s going to be a split between Briggs and Jensen.
They’ve been working singles matches at house shows to seemingly get them prepared for that, and there have been a few on-screen teases of dissension recently.
One of those was before Briggs’ match with Hayes, as Briggs told Jensen and Henley to stay backstage because he saw it as a singles breakout opportunity.
It’s worth mentioning as well that they’ve already split up once as part of a romance angle, but that time, it was Jensen being lured in by Kiana James.
James and Stratton even teased an alliance recently, so maybe that has something to do with it.
It could be a case of Stratton purposely trying to drive a wedge, which is pretty much what James did the first time around.
Either way, there’s something going on between Stratton and Briggs, and even if it doesn’t evolve into a whole romance thing, it’s still yet another sign of a split between Briggs and Jensen coming sometime soon.
