With the Best of the Super Juniors tournament soon to begin, New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced one participant has had to be replaced. That participant is Suzuki-Gun member Yoshinobu Kanemaru. It was reported recently that he had suffered a knee injury but this is the confirmation that he will miss the tournament.
Taking his place will be young lion Yuya Uemura. The news was announced on njpw1972.com where they provided the following statement:
“As a result of a knee injury to Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Yuya Uemura will now be a part of the ten man Best of the Super Jr. field, with the tournament kicking off Sunday in Aichi. Uemura has long been campaigning for this opportunity, and now gets the chance to compete with the best super juniors over the next month as we head to the finals on December 11 in Nippon Budokan.”
Additionally, Uemura was able to comment on his inclusion in the tournament. More specifically, how he felt about being a substitute.
“I know that my entry is as a result of Kanemaru’s injury, so I can’t say I’m delighted, but when I heard the news, I did get fired up.”
This will be Uemura’s first Best of the Super Juniors tournament. Last year’s competition featured young lion Ren Narita who went winless but impressed with his matches.
