Despite delivering a career-defining performance at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom, it looks like things aren’t over for Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega.
With a build-up that included a press conference moment that demonstrated that Ospreay is as gifted on the microphone as he is in the ring, the stakes for the IWGP US Championship match had always been set high and both men delivered on the night.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that Wrestle Kingdom 17 wasn’t the end of their story together.
Meltzer stated:
“This was not their big match. This was the match to set up their big match.
“They held back on a lot of what they could do – it was very much like, ‘We have to do a lot of selling, we cannot do a lot of moves because we have to save the moves for upcoming matches’.
“I don’t know when they will be, but they were under the impression, or they are certainly wanting, (more) matches. Whether it’s in the United States or back in Japan.”
With the working relationship between New Japan and AEW still looking strong and Tony Khan recently praising the quality of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, there’s every possibility that a return to AEW for Will Ospreay could happen.
