NXT star Shiloh Hill has opened up about how joining WWE was a “full circle moment” following the passing of his father.

The latest TKO Spotlight video showcased Shiloh Hill and his journey to WWE and his time in the company so far.

During the video, Hill spoke about how he got the offer to try out for WWE shortly after his father had passed away, and how he saw it as an opportunity to do something that his father would be proud of.

Hill said in the video:

“In WWE the crowd is a very important element of the actual match. I was kind of pleasantly surprised by that being a really, really fun thing to do. I really enjoy hearing the crowd and I get a lot of energy from them.

“My dad was a big wrestling fan when I was growing up, so he got me into watching wrestling, and I’ve got a bunch of memories of re-enacting wrestling matches with him. He passed away just prior to my senior year at Stanford.

“Shortly after that, I was invited to a tryout. So that just felt like a full circle moment, where I was like, wow, this is something I could do that I think he would be really happy to be looking down watching and thinking about how cool he would think it is that I’m here.

“At Stanford especially, we really stressed preparing and knowing your assignments doing film study, and in wrestling that’s really important because it’s obviously a very chaotic environment, things can go wrong in a split second, and being prepared for those things to go wrong and have contingency plans for them is something that I’ve definitely tried to carry over from my experience at Stanford and I think it’s helped me a lot along the way.

“In football you’re kind of taught to not show your emotions and focus on the game, but in wrestling, having emotions is a good thing. Honestly, that was kind of freeing, being able to let everything out and just show emotion during my matches.

“I’ve done a lot of fun, really exciting experiences in my life, and I’m someone who likes trying new things. But WWE, my career as a whole has really been the most fun thing I’ve ever done.”

On next week’s episode of NXT, Hill will take part in a “pageant” to determine who will be given the title of Mr NXT between himself and Tristan Angels.

Over the past few months, Hill has become an ally of Tatum Paxley and has been positioned as one of the top babyfaces on the brand after all the recent main roster call-ups, including defeating Ricky Saints in Saints’ last match before joining SmackDown.
