The real reason for Buddy Matthews’ recent absence from AEW TV has been revealed.
Matthews recently announced an in-ring hiatus, following reports that he may be done with AEW. The star was written off TV at Rampage: Grand Slam, taking the pin in the House of Black’s tag match against Sting & Darby Allin.
There had been rumors that Matthews had quietly served a suspension in July, explaining why he wasn’t featured on AEW TV alongside Malakai Black and Brody King around this time.
Per PWInsider, this was not the case. The report noted that Matthews’ absence was due to him having to return to Australia to handle paperwork processing for his work visa, so that he would be allowed to continue working in the US.
Malakai Black is also currently taking some time away from the ring. Following confusion surrounding his status after confirming that he did ask for his AEW release, Black has now denied that his release was granted.
Per another report, AEW President Tony Khan has made it clear that he will not be granting any releases at this time.
