The real reason for a major late replacement to a big upcoming championship match in WWE has been revealed.
On this week’s episode of NXT, Wes Lee cut a promo on the show, where he announced that he was out of action indefinitely with a back injury.
It was later revealed that Lee’s injury was not a storyline, and that he was actually injured, which would keep him out of action for 8-12 months.
Lee was set to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship at this weekend’s NXT Deadline show, with the injury leading to him being replaced by Dragon Lee in the match.
Speaking on the pre-Deadline media scrum, NXT head booker Shawn Michaels discussed the late change, and why he chose Dragon Lee to replace Wes in the match.
Shawn said that the decision to pull Wes from the match was a last minute decision, as they were not aware of the depth of his injury, but that Wes Lee made the call on his own after he had been struggling with the injury for a while.
Shawn said that Wes didn’t think he could make it through the match with the amount of pain that he’s in.
As far as Dragon Lee, who is now a member of the SmackDown roster, serving as his replacement, Shawn said that he believed that Dragon Lee had more left on the table in NXT prior to his call-up, hence he was chosen as the most suitable replacement for Wes Lee.
