After weeks of back and forth, the match that everybody saw coming has finally been made official. Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley has been confirmed for WWE Extreme Rules. The two had initially been named as participants in a multi-man number one contender’s match which was quickly canceled due to Brock Lesnar ‘backing out of his commitment’ to face the winner.

This made it very obvious that Reigns vs. Lashley was the direction that WWE was going in for the main feud on Raw and last night’s show began with the ‘Big Dog’ calling out the former Impact World Champion. Reigns was quickly interrupted by Dolph Ziggler and Drew Mcintyre. This was building on their brawl last week and a tag match with Reigns and Seth Rollins against the duo was made.
The match would ultimately be interrupted by The Revival, who Reigns also happens to be in a feud with. This led to another ‘highly anticipated’ match with the team of Lashley and Reigns against the former NXT Tag Team Champions.
Unsurprisingly, the match heated up the rivalry between the ‘Big Dog’ and the ‘Dominator’ and would see another disqualification finish as Dash and Dawson ignored the referee and refused to stop beating down Reigns. Lashley simply watched the attack unfold and walked to the back, further intensifying the feud.
After highlighting the many feuds Reigns is currently involved in on Raw, Kurt Angle confirmed that the match against Lashley would be taking place at Extreme Rules. The match is currently advertised as a standard singles bout. This is a bit of a head-scratcher considering the nature of the event. However, a stipulation could be added in the coming weeks.
Having Reigns feud with Lashley whilst also engaging in the subplots of the Rollins/McIntyre/Ziggler story and The Revival may not be the wisest choice considering that many fans view Reigns as the most overexposed superstar on the roster. These rivalries on the side could not only be diminishing the feud between Reigns and Lashley but also the WWE Intercontinental Championship narrative between Ziggler and Rollins.
