According to reports, AEW is looking to give a recently signed star a big push, and it looks like it could be happening right off the bat.
Before yesterday’s Dynamite, the promotion announced the signing of Will Hobbs. Hobbs had worked several matches on Dark in recent months as a job guy but then appeared in the Casino Battle Royale at All Out and had an impressive outing.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said:
“Man, my old friend Dave Corner who died a few years ago he would have freaked out because him and Will Hobbs were real close friends and he was always trying to push something for Will Hobbs. Will was always physically impressive. He just never really got looks or anything like that.
“He went to AEW to do jobs and Tony Khan liked him and they did that big battle royal spot to get him over [at All Out] and now he’s gonna be a guy that they’re pushing. He’s in there with with good [people].”
Hobbs will already have a big role to play on next week Dynamite as he will team with Darby Allin and World Champion Jon Moxley in a six-man tag against Lance Archer, Brian Cage and Ricky Starks.
