Cain Velasquez first appeared in a WWE ring on the SmackDown premiere on FOX on October, 4. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion immediately started a feud with long-time rival Brock Lesnar.
Later that month, at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, Cain Velasquez challenged Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship. The match was undeniably underwhelming, with Velasquez tapping out in a matter of minutes.
Cain has yet appear on WWE TV since his loss to Lesnar, but did have a match a few weeks ago at a house show in Mexico City where he teamed with Humberto Carrillo to take on, and ultimately defeat, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.
However, it seems like Velasquez’s next televised appearance will be next month at a marquee WWE pay-per-view.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Cain Velasquez is set to appear at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January 2020.
“Cain Velasquez’s next booking is for the Royal Rumble show.”
Meltzer does not note whether Velasquez’s appearance at the pay-per-view next month will be as part of the men’s Royal Rumble match, or to start an angle leading to a WrestleMania match.
Speaking of WrestleMania matches, it has been reported that one of two options WWE is considering for Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 is for another showdown with Cain Velasquez.
Taking this into consideration, we could see Velasquez appear in the men’s Royal Rumble match and win the whole thing, allowing him to challenge Brock, once again, for the WWE Championship.
