UPDATE – It appears Vince McMahon may not have been behind Stephanie McMahon’s leave of absence after all – read more here.
A new report has provided more insight on Vince McMahon’s role in Stephanie McMahon’s WWE leave of absence and corporate replacement.
On May 19, the WWE Chief Brand Officer announced that she’d be taking a leave of absence from majority of her duties with the company.
There was initially some confusion surrounding the announcement, with only a few individuals within the company aware that Stephanie was set to make that announcement.
In a company meeting in late May, it was stated that Stephanie ‘needed time’ after everything her family has been through over the last year, with the company planning to hire individuals to fill her roles.
A new article from Business Insider has stated that Stephanie’s replacement had been part of a corporate shakeup executed by WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon.
The article noted:
(Stephanie) McMahon, who is both an on-air talent as well as a popular executive responsible for advertising and sponsorships, is being replaced in her corporate role as part of a shakeup executed by her father, Vince McMahon, the organization’s 76-year-old CEO. Her purview also has included marketing, brand business, and creative services along with community and entertainment relations.
Back in March, Vince McMahon gave an interview on “The Pat McAfee Show” where he spoke about running a company with family members in key roles. “I’ve probably expected more from my family members” than of other employees, he said. “You have to do the right thing for the business. If this person isn’t working out, they shouldn’t be part of the company.”
His views were echoed by other insiders at WWE. “Family or not family, we’ve got to get the right people in place,” said one company insider — adding that there’s only one person in charge, and that’s Vince McMahon. WWE is currently interviewing candidates to fill Stephanie McMahon’s role and grow the company’s brand and sponsorship deals.
WWE has now named Catherine Newman the new Executive Vice President and Head of Marketing in Stephanie McMahon’s absence.
We will continue to provide updates on Stephanie’s role within the company as they become available.
