It was announced on SmackDown Live that Rey Mysterio will make his WWE return in a World Cup qualifier against Shinsuke Nakamura at SmackDown 1000.
Mysterio re-signed with WWE three weeks ago, and his attendance at SD 1000 was confirmed a couple of days ago.
Rey has appeared in two WWE matches already this year: the Royal Rumble in January, and the Greatest Royal Rumble in April, though he wasn’t under contract with the company at these times.
Mysterio’s last match on an episode of SmackDown came way back in February of 2014, as he, Cody Rhodes and Goldust were defeated in a six-man tag team match by the Wyatt Family.
Nakamura on the other hand is the current WWE United States Champion, defeating Jeff Hardy for the title at Extreme Rules in July.
Hardy is one man already qualfied for the World Cup, which will take place at Crown Jewel, alongside John Cena, Kurt Angle and Randy Orton. Given that current field, it’s looking likely that Rey will be joining them come November 2.
