For years “to be The Man you gotta beat The Man” was the catchphrase of Ric Flair. These days, Becky Lynch has been calling herself “The Man” of WWE. This was the cause of some friction as Flair owned the trademark for the monicker but that has now been settled.
As reported by PWInsider, Flair had sold both of his trademarks relating to “The Man” to WWE as of May 18. Flair also recently signed a new contract with WWE and this transaction was likely involved in those negotiations.
Lynch began calling herself “The Man” during her rivalry with Charlotte in 2018. Flair thought he should be compensated for the use of the catchphrase as he had been using it in promos and interviews for years and quickly trademarked the term.
Lynch recently announced her pregnancy while relinquishing her Raw Women’s Championship. She will likely be off television for some time as she is due in December.
Meanwhile, Flair most recently appeared on WWE television last year in the lead up to Crown Jewel. At the event he managed a ten-man tag team match against Hulk Hogan’s team. Flair’s team was unsuccessful.
