‘We Can’t All Be Roman Reigns’ Former WWE Star Addresses Previous Booking WWE

A former WWE star has reflected on his run with the company that saw him rack up an incredibly unfortunate streak of 269 losses in a row.

Brian Myers, fka Curt Hawkins in WWE, competed in the company across two different spells between 2007-2014 and 2016-2020, however aside from winning two WWE Tag Team Championship with Matt Cardona (FKA Zack Ryder), his losing ways were perhaps what WWE fans remembered him for.

The aforementioned 269 loss streak came during his second run with the company and actually came to an end at WrestleMania 35 when he and Cardona dethroned FTR (fka The Revival) to become Raw Tag Team Champions.

Myers recently sat down with Sam Roberts for NotSam Wrestling and reflected on his losing ways and whether it bothered him or not.

Myers said:

“(This) business, man, I say all the time (it’s) a roller coaster ride man.

“We all can’t be Roman Reigns. Roman Reigns rules and he’s freaking awesome. He’s the best. But that’s his spot.

“There’s not like 14 of those spots. There’s one and he basically created that spot. That spot didn’t even exist before he got it.

“So like, it can’t all be just winning and being awesome and massive paydays and stuff. You gotta take the good with the bad.”

Interestingly enough Myers revealed that he was given the opportunity to end his fabled streak much earlier than it ended up going, with Vince McMahon wanting Myers to defeat Heath Slater on an episode of Main Event in his home state of New York, however, Myers declined.

Explaining his thought process behind this, Myers said:

“I weirdly had the foresight of like, ‘Well, this could be something. Something better than what I’m doing and just (being a) random guy on the roster that’s not doing anything.’

I might have told you the story, but like, at one point when it was becoming a thing, we were at Barclays and one of the writers came out of the meeting. He goes, ‘Today’s your lucky day, Vince said he wants to give you a win in your hometown,’ which is Brooklyn, which I would never really consider my hometown.

Home state I guess you can say. He goes ‘Against Heath Slater on Main Event.’ And I’m just like, ‘I’d rather not.’

“No one asks to lose in WWE. Because everyone’s such a mark for themselves. It’s an unheard-of thing. I’m like ‘I really would rather not’ Like ‘no, I think there’s something to this’ luckily enough.

I said ‘Let me get this, am I wrong in thinking this, everyone is aware of my losing streak here except for Vince, right?’

He’s like ‘That’s probably safe to say’ (I went) ‘Then can we just nudge him about it and see what he says’ and thank god they were cool enough to do that. And he was like, ‘Oh, great,’ and went with it.”

Following his release from WWE in 2020, Myers has primarily wrestled in IMPACT Wrestling, becoming a one-time Digital Media Champion in the promotion.

Myers’ former partner Cardona has dropped numerous hints this year that he could make a return to WWE, something that continued earlier this week when the former Intercontinental Champion said he was ‘coming home’, click here to read on.
