It was reported yesterday by PWInsider that NXT standout Matt Riddle would be making a full-time move to SmackDown next week, leaving the black and gold brand behind.
Dave Meltzer has since confirmed the report, and suggested Riddle’s cage match with Timothy Thatcher next week could be the way WWE writes him off NXT.
“Matt Riddle’s main roster debut right now is scheduled to be imminent, so his cage match with Timothy Thatcher could either be his blow-off or lead to it.”
There has been some speculation as to why Riddle is being moved to SmackDown instead of Raw, and it could be due to previous heat with one of WWE’s biggest stars.
If you aren’t all that familiar with Matt Riddle, just know that he has a bit of a record when it comes to upsetting main roster talent, most notably Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar.
Meltzer is speculating that the reason Riddle is being moved to SmackDown is so the company can avoid any further altercations between Riddle and Brock Lesnar.
Both are former UFC stars, and many have labelled a match between the two men as a dream match, but it seems WWE is keen to avoid any further issues backstage.
