Scrapped Miro/Rusev WWE Tag Team Partner Revealed AEW

Long before he was Miro in AEW, Rusev was one of many upstart stars attempting to make a name for themselves in WWE’s stacked developmental ranks of the early 2010s.

While Miro would emerge in NXT between 2013 and 2014 before moving to the company’s main roster, his journey in the company truly began in WWE’s previous developmental ranks of Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW).

Whilst in FCW between 2011 and 2012, the Bulgarian competed as a singles talent, but according to former FCW wrestler and current NJPW of America commentator Alex Koslov, there were once plans to pair the two men for a tag run together.

Speaking to Developmentally Speaking, Koslov revealed WWE’s short-lived plans:

“The only ideas, the only path I had over there (in WWE developmental) was me and Rusev.

“Me and Rusev started tagging but it was kind of towards the tail end of my time there…

“It was actually the most stressful time of my life over there when I was in FCW.”

Koslov revealed elsewhere in the interview that he was not mentally prepared for his run in WWE’s developmental system, which perhaps led to his run with Miro being brief.

Koslov continued:

“I wanted it so badly but I was not able to, I don’t know, do a good enough job that was satisfactory for them it felt and so I asked for my release and Johnny Ace told me to take a little vacation so he sent me home for a couple weeks and I came back energized and I started to do better work but at that point, it was already too late but they were thinking of putting me and Rusev on the road at that time but, they had to release people and had to make the cuts and I was one of ‘em.”

Despite Koslov’s WWE run not working out, Miro went on to carve an impressive career for himself in both WWE and later AEW.

After an absence since last September, Miro returned to AEW last month as part of the Collision brand and has picked up two wins in his two matches so far.
