A pitched match that didn’t end up taking place at AEW’s record-breaking All In London 2023 event has been revealed.
Speaking on Talk Is Jericho, inaugural AEW World Champion Chris Jericho discussed many aspects of the historic event from Wembley Stadium, including his own match with Will Ospreay as well as the circumstances that preceded CM Punk’s AEW departure.
But one particularly interesting tidbit he shared regarding All In was a match that was at one point discussed to take place on the card on August 27, one that would have seen two former Jericho Appreciation Society members go one on one.
According to Jericho, Sammy Guevara vs Daniel Garcia was an idea floating around for the All In card, however, it ultimately didn’t happen, although for Guevara at least he did accompany Jericho to the ring and get a chance to experience the record breaking crowd.
Jericho explained:
“I wanted Sammy out there with me to continue our storyline. I also wanted him to be able to feel that.
“I know he wanted to wrestle and there was at one point an idea to do Daniel Garcia versus Sammy but we just, you know, you can’t do everything on the show and I wanted him to be able to feel it and when he was out there after Judas like, ‘This is f**king great man, this is great.’
“You can see him kind of jumping up and down so he feels it, right? He wants to be on the show next year but now he knows what it feels like to just be in that atmosphere and around that mass of humanity.
“So I have no doubt that Sammy will be on the show next year for sure…”
Although Jericho and Guevara looked potentially set for a split on last week’s Dynamite (August 30), the two long-term allies are set to instead pursue the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Le Sex Gods’ first step in doing so will come at tonight’s AEW Dynamite (September 6) from Indianapolis, Indiana, where they take on former ROH Tag Team Champions Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis).
