Scrapped Plans For Return Of Finn Balor Demon King Revealed

A report has discussed nixed plans for the return of Finn Balor’s Demon King character, revealing who Balor would’ve fought in the body paint.

Finn Balor returned to NXT shortly after losing to The Fiend at SummerSlam 2019. Before plans were changed, Balor was meant to battle The Fiend in a rematch, this time as the Demon King.

Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men podcast was asked whether Demon Balor vs The Fiend was being talked about for SummerSlam 2021. Zarian revealed that the rematch was meant to happen in 2020, stating:

“That was supposed to happen a year ago, but the pandemic happened.”

Balor has been wrestling for NXT since his 2019 match against The Fiend, even winning the NXT Championship for the second time in his career. He lost the title to Karrion Kross at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

It has previously been reported that members of the WWE creative team have been asking for Balor to return to the main roster for months.

Balor hasn’t sported the body paint since his 2019 Intercontinental Championship match against Andrade. In an interview, Balor stated that he thinks there’s more life left in the Demon King character.
