Seth Rollins made his return and cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to become World Heavyweight Champion at WWE SummerSlam 2025.

After winning a gauntlet match coming out of Saturday Night’s Main Event in July, CM Punk earned a title shot against World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER at WWE SummerSlam.

Punk had hailed the match as the first time since his WWE return in November 2023 that he’s competing purely for business rather than because someone has a personal issue with him.

Punk vs GUNTHER main evented SummerSlam night one with their match resulting in a title change as CM Punk became a champion in WWE for the first time since he lost the WWE Championship to The Rock in early 2013.

However, his reign as World Heavyweight Champion clocked in at just over five minutes, as Seth Rollins cashed in Money in the Bank and won the title for himself.

Rollins and Paul Heyman came out onto the stage with Rollins on crutches and wearing a knee brace, before he threw the crutches and brace away, headed to the ring, and officially cashed in.

Calling back to Rollins’ previous Money in the Bank cash-in at WrestleMania 31 – which Michael Cole referred to as the Heist of the Century – Cole dubbed tonight as the Ruse of the Century.

Earlier in the night at SummerSlam night one, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship from Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez.
