WWE
There are currently releases ongoing within WWE – specifically at the developmental level including NXT stars being let go from the company.
UPDATE – More WWE releases are expected, refresh this page for the latest updates. Confirmed releases so far: Jasper Troy. There are reportedly four names who have been released thus far per the Wrestling Observer, so we’ll keep you posted when there’s confirmation on who they are.
Jasper Troy, who won the first season of WWE LFG and is a former Speed Champion, has confirmed he was released as well as the fact he’ll be a free agent in 30 days, which is the usual notice period for NXT talents as opposed to the 90 days main roster talent get.
Troy had been vocal on social media about his position of late, including posting just a couple of days ago:
“I Can Hold My Head High Knowing I Give My All Not For A Pat On The Back Or Because I Expect Something In Return……This Business Means Something To Me I Have So Much To Prove And I Ain’t In No Rush To Prove It I’ll Get Mines I’ll Stand On My Word And Become Everything I Know I Am I Won’t Be Denied!!!!!!!”
The belief according to PWInsider is that there aren’t releases expected for main roster talent today, just NXT.
Why WWE Releases NXT Stars
There’s generally a six month evaluation period for WWE NXT talents, whereby anyone who hasn’t made a noticeable improvement in that six month period is at risk of being cut.
Troy is someone who was clearly highly thought of as he won LFG, but never really pushed on in NXT after an initial burst including his Speed Title reign.
Just looking at his position on the card for someone with his size, he was always going be someone at risk of being cut.
Anyone who has been in the system for a decent amount of time but isn’t featured prominently on TV could be a candidate for a release.
