Shawn Spears Reveals Exactly When The Pinnacle Was First Pitched (Exclusive)

In an exclusive interview with WrestleTalk ahead of Blood & Guts next week, AEW star Shawn Spears revealed when the idea for The Pinnacle was first brought up.

Interestingly, Spears revealed that the idea for the faction was brought up this time last year while he and MJF were doing segments together at ringside, which was before FTR had even left WWE.

Despite the idea for the formation preceding their debut for the company, Shawn Spears explained that things started to really progress once Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler actually joined AEW:

“That was the conversation when the pandemic first started [betting in the crowd with MJF]”

“That conversation started with Max and I. We were sitting at ringside and we said you know what, we are watching all these guys come out and we said, not to steal the line from the guy himself, ‘but we’re better than these guys and we know it”. So we said “what do you think if we put a little crew together?”. Now the key thing is, who that crew was going to be. Obviously FTR hadn’t shown up at that point yet, but the rumblings were already taking place, and we said “if those guys come here, those guys would be a hell of a crew to get on board”. They are workhorses, I don’t need to sell FTR to you, you know what they bring to the table. Wardlow and Max was a no-brainer. Myself and Tully, no brainer. So the pieces kind of fell into place once those guys got to AEW.”

Over the next few months, we’d see MJF, FTR, Shawn Spears and Wardlow drop subtle teases that they’d be forming a faction together on social media and in TV segments.
