Shinsuke Nakamura Talks Backstage HEAT After John Cena Botch

Shinsuke Nakamura recently did an interview with Gorilla Position in which he addressed many different aspects of his WWE career, including his character, his heel turn, and the infamous botched exploder suplex on John Cena last year.

Nakamura first clarified that the character he plays was always meant to be a heel.

“My wrestling style came from the heel stuff when I was in Japan. A good guy probably doesn’t do like a face vibration. A good guy probably doesn’t move like spaghetti. Now I think I need to show my real emotion.”

During the August 1 edition of Smackdown Live Nakamura faced John Cena in a number one contenders match. towards the end of the match Nakamura went for an exploder suplex. Instead of landing on his stomach, Cena under-rotated and landed on his head.Though Cena avoided injury there was plenty of anger over the spot. Regarding the botch, Nakamura said:

“I don’t know if I can tell this or not. Some people were upset backstage, not John, someone else. They were so p***ed off at me, like ‘Why did you do that?’ I thought my [WWE] career was finished that day, but everybody came to support me even John Cena. He said ‘It wasn’t his fault. It was my fault.’”

Regarding his chances of facing John Cena again Nakamura said:

“So not everybody has a chance to wrestle with John Cena now. So I felt good in the ring with John Cena. I never was the villain in the ring, so if I had the chance I want to wrestle against him again. Maybe we can create something better than before.”
