Thor Love & Thunder director Taika Waititi has confirmed that there was a nod to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson towards the end of the film (spoilers ahead).
Before the final credits, Korg revealed he had settled down with a fellow Kronan called Dwayne. Watiti has now commented on speculation that this was a reference to the former WWE Champion.
After a fan shared an edit of a Kronan dressed in The Rock’s iconic turtleneck outfit, Watiti tweeted:
“No coincidence baby”
The film ironically featured another former WWE star, with Batista (Dave Bautista) reprising his role as Drax the Destroyer.
Batista notably bid farewell to his Drax character after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 wrapped production. This MCU film is currently slated for a May 2023 release.
Not including a 6 second bout at WrestleMania 32, The Rock last wrestled for WWE in the main event of WrestleMania 29 in 2013. The People’s Champion recently noted that he’d be open to a return to the ring.
The star’s daughter, Simone Johnson, recently made her NXT debut on the live event loop as Ava Raine. The Rock has reacted to her debut, which you can read more about right here.
