Who Pitched The Rock WWE Heel Turn Revealed WWE

A backstage update has emerged on WWE’s booking of The Rock, with more details emerging on the decision to turn him heel.

The Rock became the real-life bad guy to a lot of WWE fans for a few days after appearing on the February 2 edition of SmackDown, where he confronted Roman Reigns after seemingly replacing Cody Rhodes in the WrestleMania 40 main event.

The dynamic changed during the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff event, when The Rock turned heel in storyline by slapping Cody Rhodes.

Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was The Rock who pitched his own heel turn after the realization that plans for the WrestleMania main event had to change from Rock vs Reigns to Rhodes vs Reigns due to the fan reaction.

Explaining the changes that happened in the lead-up to the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff, Meltzer wrote:

There is said to be far more behind the scenes that hasn’t come out but given the timing can’t be talked about now.

But Johnson over the weekend said it was best to be out of the Reigns match, put Cody in, which by this point everyone conceded by then.

It was Johnson who then pitched the heel turn and he did pitch the idea of the Reigns & Rock vs. Rhodes & Rollins match for night one.

So that was his idea if that is how it turns out.

The Rock and Roman Reigns will both appear on Friday’s (February 16) edition of SmackDown.

Paul Heyman has addressed this upcoming appearance, which you can read more about right here.
