Following a number of stars recently revealed to have signed dual contracts with AEW and CMLL, a former world champion has now officially joined AEW’s partner promotion.

CMLL has now confirmed that Thunder Rosa is joining the CMLL roster as part of a dual contract with AEW.

This was first announced during the April 3 Super Viernes show, where Thunder Rosa also teamed with India Sioux and Marcela against Olympia, Persephone and Princesa Sugehit in a Two out of Three Falls tag-team match.

CMLL took to Twitter to confirm the news, writing:

Consejo Mundial De Lucha Libre announces that Thunder Rosa will be part of the CMLL roster under a dual contract modality with All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

Thunder Rosa’s only other CMLL appearance came at the June 2025 CMLL Presenta NJPW Fantastica Mania Mexico event, in a losing effort against La Jarochita.

The former AEW Women’s World Champion is re-establishing herself following a  seven month absence, returning to the ring in February from an injury which she previously thought could’ve ended her in-ring career.

Her most recent AEW match took place on the March 4, with Rosa unsuccessfully challenging for Thekla’s AEW Women’s World Championship.

Thunder Rosa’s recent CMLL appearance marked her first in-ring outing outside of AEW and ROH at an event which wasn’t a crossover show since June 2025, when she defeated Zyra at HOL Hate Me Now.

A number of other stars have signed dual contracts with AEW and CMLL, including Mascara Dorada, Persephone and current CMLL World Heavyweight Champion Hechicero.

With more of these dual contracts announced with partner promotions, crossover appearances will become more regular, with talent representing multiple companies simultaneously.

AEW and CMLL’s relationship is different to WWE and AAA’s, with WWE officially acquiring AAA in April 2025, and keeping it running as a brand separate from Raw, SmackDown and NXT.

While the business side of both AEW and WWE’s ventures into Mexico are different, the result is similar, with US-based fans introduced to top Latin American wrestlers, and Mexican fans witnessing appearances from US-based stars.
