The reports of backstage unrest in AEW have heightened in recent weeks, with reports emerging yesterday of Eddie Kingston and Sammy Guevara being involved in a backstage altercation.
There was a talent meeting held prior to this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite in Cleveland, which you can read the details of here. The main takeaway being the AEW had contacted WWE to not ‘tamper’ with their contracted talent.
Dave Meltzer provided an update on the situation in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, noting that Tony Khan mad it very clear during the meeting that he wasn’t going to be a ‘pushover’ during the ongoing backstage unhappiness.
He wrote:
One wrestler noted to us that Khan made it very clear he was not going to be a pushover for demands by the talent. There have been a lot of instances where talent of late has made demands on what they want in regard to the PPV and in some cases Khan has done that thinking the proposed ideas are better and in others he hasn’t.
AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker are also reportedly part of backstage drama, with the two reportedly ‘hating each other’s guts’ for well over a year now.
Both Kingston and Guevara have since issued statements on the altercation that led to Kingston’s suspension from AEW.
