Tony Khan Provides Update On Mercedes Mone’s Potential AEW Debut AEW

Following Mercedes Mone’s appearance at AEW All In on Sunday, August 27, Tony Khan has provided a new update on when we can expect to see Mone step into an AEW ring.

Speaking at the All Out media scrum, Khan discussed the upcoming WrestleDream event on October 1 and whether Mone would be available to compete on the inaugural pay-per-view card.

Khan revealed that a return to action by then is unlikely due to her injury status, however, he was not shy about his desire to make it happen as soon as possible.

Khan said:

”I don’t know if she would be physically cleared at that time. I’m not expecting that because she had a major injury.

“When she’s cleared, that is someone we’re really interested in working with.”

Prior to her injury at May’s NJPW STRONG Resurgence, Mone had been enjoying significant success, already winning the IWGP Women’s Championship earlier in the year.

While Mone’s injury may prevent her from appearing at WrestleDream, the event already seems to carry extra significance for NJPW and its talent.

When discussing the WrestleDream show at the post-All In press conference, Khan revealed that the show’s date of October 1 was chosen due to its historical significance of NJPW great Antonio Inoki passing away a year ago on that day.

With the show paying tribute to Inoki, Khan also revealed that he was hoping to secure talent from both NJPW and STARDOM for the show.

Before WrestleDream comes around however, AEW must first prepare for All Out on Sunday, September 3 – to find out the latest news ahead of the show at Chicago’s All-State Arena click here.
