Tony Khan Fires Back At WWE Hall Of Famer’s Criticism, Calls It ‘Ironic’ AEW

Tony Khan has fired back at criticism from Eric Bischoff. Khan has called out Bischoff’s critique for being ‘ironic.’

Eric Bischoff has repeatedly criticised Tony Khan for his booking of AEW.

Previously, the WWE Hall of Famer has accused Khan of booking “like a 14-year-old boy,” and said when he watches AEW, he sees “excuses for matches.”

Tony Khan has made a point of responding to Bischoff’s many critiques.

During an interview with the Battleground Podcast, Khan was asked about ROH World Television Champion Shane Taylor’s appearance on Rampage last week.

Khan fired back at Bischoff for criticising AEW for giving a platform to wrestlers from outside of the promotion without any prior introduction.

Khan noted this was an ironic point to make, as he enjoyed tuning into WCW Nitro for this very reason.

He said:

“There are fans who have never seen Shane Taylor before and that’s okay, you get introduced to new faces all the time.

“When I was a young wrestling fan, that was one of the things I really liked about WCW ‘Nitro.’ I think it would be very ironic that the same promoter now would tell you you don’t want to see these faces or introduce new people that we’ve never seen before on TV because they’re actually the ones that did that,”

“(There were) all kinds of new faces I’d read in the magazines, all kinds of people I’ve never seen before, and they would just walk out and wrestle on ‘Nitro’ like it was perfectly natural and I thought it was the coolest thing.

“But I guess that’s not acceptable anymore, even though it’s much, much, much easier to access information on the Internet than it was in 1996.”

WCW Nitro was created by Eric Bischoff and Ted Turner, sparking the Monday Night Wars between WWE (then WWF) and WCW.

Khan purchased Ring of Honor earlier this year. He recently revealed his future plans for ROH storylines on AEW TV, which you can read more about right here.

Chris Jericho will defend the ROH World Championship against Claudio Castagnoli in the main event of ROH Final Battle on Saturday, December 10.

If Castagnoli loses the match, he will have to join the Jericho Appreciation Society. Check out the full match card right here.
