A top WWE star has revealed that he didn’t find out about his Royal Rumble win until the day of.
Since returning to WWE in 2017, Drew McIntyre has experienced a career resurgence unlike many before him.
“The Scottish Warrior” is a two-time WWE Champion and has put on a catalog of exceptional bouts along the way.
Before he won the richest prize in the company, McIntyre achieved his biggest victory by winning the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match.
In a new interview with Darren Stone for “Faction 919”, the former WWE Champion discussed his Royal Rumble win and revealed that he only learned of winning until the day of the show.
Talking about the day of Royal Rumble 2020, McIntyre said:
“I got there on the day, heard rumblings it was something with Brock.”
“I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, if I did something with Brock that’d be great. I’d love to wrestle Brock Lesnar.'”
“Eventually, I eliminated Brock Lesnar in the Royal Rumble. I heard the reaction of 40,000 people considering the performance he had in that Rumble, eliminating everybody single-handedly, half of the Royal Rumble himself, and my goodness, that’s amazing.”
Drew McIntyre last eliminated Roman Reigns to win the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match. He went on to defeat Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36.
During the interview, Drew also revealed that he felt his second run on the WWE main roster was a bit rocky in the beginning as a heel who didn’t connect with the audience due to not saying things human would say.
As previously reported, McIntyre is currently out of action after suffering an injury at WWE Survivor Series.
