WWE United States Champion Trick Williams wants to elevate the SmackDown brand as well as his championship.

Williams won the US Title from Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 42 last month, and then retained it against Zayn this past Saturday at Backlash.

In an interview for News 19 WLTX, Williams was asked if he ever thought his career would “take off” and he’d achieve all the success that he’s had in WWE as of late.

He said:

“I was hoping so. I grew up, I watched the Attitude Era. Stone Cold, The Rock, all these guys. I opened a can of whoop ass at 3 years old.

“Seeing them and watching The Rock, the way they could control the crowd. When their music dropped and the people just go crazy.

“I said, ‘I want that for myself.’ And here we are.”

Trick Williams was also asked what his upcoming goals are in WWE – saying that he wants to elevate SmackDown as a whole as well as positioning his United States Championship as the main event of the show.

He said:

“We’ve gotta elevate the brand. We’ve gotta make SmackDown popping like never before.

“I want this title right here to main event SmackDown. I want everybody to want this title right here. We’re gonna lift the stakes.”

The United States Title picture has been the main event segment of SmackDown a number of times during the Williams vs Sami Zayn feud, including the pre-Backlash episode with the funeral of the Gingerbread Man.

There’s no doubt WWE has positioned Williams as a future top star and it seems like this US Title reign will be a stepping stone to the WWE Title picture in the not too distant future.
