Triple H Reveals Reaction To Cody Rhodes ‘Smashing The Throne’ In AEW AEW/WWE

WWE’s Triple H has opened up about his reaction to Cody Rhodes smashing a throne at AEW Double or Nothing in 2019.

During his entrance for the Cody Rhodes vs Dustin Rhodes match at the May pay-per-view, the American Nightmare used a sledgehammer to destroy a throne on the stage, with both the sledgehammer and throne seen as nods to Triple H.

Speaking about the iconic moment on Allan & Carly on Hit WA, Triple H was asked about whether the pair “laugh about it now” or if it’s stopping him from “finishing the story”. He said:

“I laughed about it then! Look, people make that stuff out to be so much more than it is. To me, if I was in his shoes, I’d have done the same thing.

“It’s one of the things I love about Cody – I’ve watched Cody go from being a kid in this business, and I don’t mean that as disrespectfully, just literally a kid.

“His dad was in some way a mentor to me. We started NXT together. He was a big part of that system. I learned a lot from Dusty and sort of sitting under his learning tree as well, and we had a wonderful partnership.

“And to see (Cody) grow from literally this kid to coming in, trying to find his way in the business and come out of his dad’s shadow, which was monumental. Then gambling on himself to go find himself and go find who he was.

“People read into this… it wasn’t about where he went, it was about the journey. It was about him going and finding himself and proving to himself that he could stand outside of his father’s shadow, and it wasn’t this machine trying to make him his dad’s kid or anything else, it was finding himself. And he did that to the point where he was, and he says it (himself), where he was undeniable.

“I’ve seen that a few times over the years, Drew McIntyre’s another guy. It went sour, (he) goes and gambles on himself, and we had talked about it when he was leaving – go find yourself, when you find yourself, I’ll be watching. When I see you’ve found yourself, we’ll talk and you’ll come home.”

Rhodes has previously revealed that he still has the broken throne at the Nightmare Factory and revealed that Triple H ‘kept tabs’ on him when he left WWE.

A number of WWE stars and personnel are currently in Australia for the February 24 Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event.

Cody Rhodes is of course one of those, as he’ll be a guest on the Grayson Waller Effect along with Seth Rollins.

Rhodes recently lost his WWE Raw match against Drew McIntyre thanks to Bloodline interference with McIntyre later reacting to claims of being a ‘hypocrite’
