Two WWE World Champions Have First Ever Match In AEW WWE/AEW

In the opening match of tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite, two former WWE Champions have their first ever singles match against each other.

Jon Moxley and Jeff Hardy went one-on-one for the first time ever on tonight’s AEW Dynamite as the big match kicked off the show.

Despite their past history together in WWE, this was the first time the pair met in a singles match.

With the resurrection of the AEW ranking system, “every match in AEW counts” as Jeff Hardy continues his quest to rise the singles ranks in 2024.

While Matt Hardy briefly accompanied Jeff, he did not come to ringside for the one-on-one battle while Moxley also flew solo for the match.

In the end, Jon Moxley picked up the victory, but after the match, it was Jeff Hardy who showed some continued heelish tendencies after some teases of a turn in recent weeks.

Rather than shaking hands with Moxley, he gave him the finger (although admittedly a Jeff Hardy style one that was two fingers but carried clearly the same meaning) and left the ring.

It was then that Jon Moxley would end up being the focus of a beatdown from several CMLL stars who were at ringside for the bout.

Elsewhere on tonight’s episode of Dynamite, a ‘big announcement’ from Tony Khan was announced for next week, February 7.
