Update On Kevin Owens Using The Stone Cold Stunner And Steve Austin’s Reaction

Kevin Owens return to SmackDown Live on Tuesday night to take Kofi Kingston’s place in the Fastlane WWE Championship match against current title-holder Daniel Bryan.

It was admittedly an odd move as Owens has been portrayed as a babyface in a series of mobile phone videos leading up to his return. Surely WWE didn’t think fans would trade in their Kofi love for big KO just like that.

Well, according to eWrestlingNews.com, they didn’t. During the tag match later on where Owens & Kingston took on Bryan & Rowan, KO pulled out the Stone Cold Stunner to pin the WWE Champion after his patented Pop-Up Powerbomb failed to do so.

As reported by the site, this was given the go-ahead by WWE in an effort to get Owens over as a babyface despite his position as Vince McMahon’s chosen challenger.

They’re not wrong as the Stunner is a massively over finisher and garnered a huge pop when Owens hit it on Tuesday night. The report states that he will still be using the Pop-Up Powerbomb as a finisher alongside the Stunner.

Following SmackDown Live, Owens tweeted Steve Austin (the moves original owner) letting him know that he “finally figured it out.”

Austin has since reacted to Owens using the move on his own Twitter account:

All of that aside, we’re still getting #KofiMania, right?
