Update On WWE Potentially Signing Jay White

Update On WWE Potentially Signing Jay White

It has been reported that former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Jay White’s deal with NJPW is up this month, with it being a 50/50 whether or not he’ll re-sign with the Japanese promotion or join WWE.

Speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has revealed that AEW reached out to Jay White in 2018. However, White told the promotion that he was under NJPW contract until 2025.

“Okay, the Jay White stuff. I have not spoken to Jay White and New Japan isn’t saying anything which makes me think it’s an angle, and it probably is.

“When AEW was forming, so this would be late 2018, obviously they wanted Jay White. All of those guys worked with him. They know how good he is, I mean they knew without the push [from NJPW] how good Jay White’s potential was and how good he is. He’s better now.

“He told [AEW] when they talked to them in 2018, he said that he signed a seven-year contract in 2018. He said, ‘I just signed a seven-year contract.’ I don’t know if that’s true, but I know that’s what he said. So, you can take it from there as far as all this stuff.”

While it’s always possible that Jay White may have been lying to those who reached out to him from AEW, it does put the report that his deal with the Japanese promotion is up this month in question.
