Charlotte Flair was unsuccessful in trying to capture the WWE Women’s Championship from Asuka on last week’s episode of SmackDown.
The match between the two ended in a no contest after Bianca Belair had got involved, attacking both women in the match after previously taking a seat at ringside.
Following the match, a rumour emerged online that pitches had been made within the company to add Charlotte to the Women’s Money in the Bank match the following night, with her replacing Zelina Vega.
Obviously that never ended up happening, with the original women’s Money in the Bank competitors competing in the bout with IYO SKY winning.
In an update from Fightful Select (subscription required), when asked about those pitches ahead of the show, Fightful was told that they had not heard of such a plan to take place.
In addition, the report notes that there was not serious consideration to that pitch, and that Charlotte’s creative has been in place ‘for a while’, even prior to her return.
The report notes that Charlotte’s creative to be involved with Bianca and Asuka was set before her return, with the idea being to re-establish Asuka by having her involved with two of the top stars in the division chasing her for the title as opposed to the other way around in order to add more intrigue and suspense to her reign.
The feud between the three is seemingly set to lead to a Triple Threat match for the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam in Detroit.
